Icelandic students visit Austria - April 2010

Sunday evening on April 11th the Icelanders arrived in Austria. On Monday morning the students got a guided tour through our school  and had the chance to join some Austrian school lessons. After lunch in our school cafeteria we visited the old town of Bregenz and also the local mountain called "Pfänder" with its wild park. In the evening some students relaxed by playing some games of billard.

The next day, the group was devided into two part. One went to see some attracions in the forest of Bregenz, called "Bregenzerwald". There we had a guided tour at a small beer brewery. At lunchtime, the students learned how to make cheese, typical austrian mountain cheese, at the "Käsehaus" in Andelsbuch. We completed our journey with a hike in Damüls, where our guests had a great view at the with snow covered mountains in the alps.

The other part of the students went to the beautiful ski village Lech. For the Icelandic ones it was very excited and new. Because it is situated between all the high Alps. In Iceland there aren’t that high mountains. In the evening we sat all together, drunk good Austrian beer and eat Austrian dishes. We went to bed late and we got up early in the morning, because in this time of the year the snow is only good in the morning. So at 9 o’clock we took the skies and snowboards, by the way thanks Ambros Strolz for getting all for free. No cloud was on the sky and you saw every mountain. It was a fantastic view. The Icelandic were excited because they don’t have such big ski areas. After lunch the most of us were tiered and exhausted and we got back to the cottage and we slept a little bit. After the others got back from skiing we went back home. Everybody enjoyed the day in Lech =D

In the evening, we went to John's pub in Dornbirn, to have some drinks, waterpipes and of course nice conversations!

On Wednesday we went by train to Feldkirch. We walked from the railway station to the Wildlife Park. It is a big park in the wood with a lot of local wild animals. After an excursion through this Park we went to a castle which is a museum and a restaurant too. This castle is called “Schattenburg”. In this restaurant we had our lunch with the famous “Schattenburgschnitzel”. When we finished our lunch we had a great and very interesting guided tour in the museum. It was about the history of the castle and Feldkirch. We finished our tour in Feldkirch with the walk back to the railway station. From there, some of us went to the “Rappenlochschlucht” in Dornbirn. This is a nature made canyon to walk through and at the end, you can see a little old electricity station. The rest of the group went to a Shopping-Mall in Dornbirn, called “Messepark”.  In the evening the whole group went to the K-Shake (Disco). There we had a lot of fun together   =)

On Thursday we went to Dornbrin to the climbing hall with the World Cup Champion Lukas Köb. At the beginning they were afraid of climbing, but that has subsided with the time.
After that we went to Lindau by train. The weather was perfect and we sat by the lake and ate ice cream and taught German to the Icelanders. In the late afternoon we went back home on the ship, because our guests had to pack, to take a rest and to ate some dinner.
In the evening we went bowling to the “Strike”. We hat a lot of fun. It was our last evening! Against 23 clock we went to the disco and we took a very long party, so we were very tired the next morning!

Learning something new is always fun! The Icelanders had a great time in Austrian school! Furthermore, the forest of Bregenz and the beautiful ski village, Lech must be an added attraction. Visiting Wildlife Park is the best way to be close with the other life beings-animals. The students visited The Wildlife Park in the wood with a lot of local wild animals—a complete way to have fun!
